The European Union (EU) supports civil society in Montenegro through various programs, initiatives, and funds. An empowered civil society is key to strengthening participatory democracies in the EU accession process.
The Civil Society Facility (CSF) program is one of the instruments with which the EU supports the development of civil society and media in the enlargement countries. Since its establishment in 2008, pre-accession assistance has been provided to civil society in the Western Balkans and Turkey. The general objectives of the Civil Society Support Program are gender equality, economic growth, reducing inequalities, and sustainability of cities and communities.
The European Union also provides support to civil society organizations in capacity building and developing ideas, primarily those aimed at establishing the fundamental values of the EU.
