The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, in cooperation with the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, has announced a contest for the awarding of three “Johannes Rau” scholarships for the training of PhD students and young researchers from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The project carrier is the Institute for German and International Law and Party Research at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (PRuF).The aim of this programme is to support young countries on their way to democratisation through the training of young researchers.

The scholarships provide opportunities for the implementation of a research project or training focused on research into democracy at the aforementioned Institute. In addition, students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with practical work in the local state parliament, as well as the work of deputies in the parliament of the state. Three months of work practice in political parties is provided, as well as in the administration of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. The scholarships are intended for postgraduate students of law, political science, sociology and related fields.

Criteria:

– Academic success

– Recommendations from two professors from the candidate’s university, documenting the candidate’s scientific (research) activities

– A convincing and well-planned research project

– Motivational letter

Candidates must possess a good knowledge of German (proof: DSH “Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang”, the Goethe-Institut’s Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung certificate, Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom or similar).

The upper age limit is 32 years (possible exceptions to this rule).
