PODGORICA, 29 May 2017 – Jakša Vuković, a law student at the University of Montenegro, will travel to Brussels as the winner of a competition for the best essay on the topic “Montenegro and the European Union 60 years from now.” The awards were presented today at the EU Info Centre, which is also the organiser of the first-prize trip.
Second prize went to Nikola Martinović, a student of economics at the University of Montenegro, and third prize to his colleague, Ivana Tošković. They each received a tablet device.
The awards were presented by the representative of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, Patrick Schmelzer, the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Montenegro, Mladen Chervenakov, and Momčilo Radulović, the president of the European Movement in Montenegro.
The competition was run by the European Movement in Montenegro within the framework of the celebration of Europe Month. Students from all Montenegrin universities were able to submit their works until 10 May 2017.
Following the awards ceremony, a panel discussion titled “Future relations between Montenegro and the EU” was held, during which students had the opportunity to hear the answers to questions such as: ‘When could Montenegro join the EU?’ and ‘Will the EU wait for other candidate countries to fulfil the accession conditions so that it could form another “enlargement package”?’, but there were also answers to specific questions relating to the fulfilment of European criteria in specific areas, such as ecology and environmental protection.
