Brussels, 17 July 2017 – European Parliament President, Antonio Tajani, will pay an official visit to Montenegro from 18 to 19 July 2017.
Ahead of the visit, the President commented:
”The Western Balkans have a strong European vocation, bound by strong historic, cultural, and economic links. By going to Montenegro, the first non-EU country I visit during my mandate, I want to send a strong message to the whole region. The door to EU membership remains open for all those thriving to change their countries for the better, not only for the sake of accession, but also for that of their citizens.
“Stability in the region means stability for all of Europe. I look forward to engaging with the people of Montenegro.”
President Tajani will participate in a conference organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro on investment opportunities in the country in the infrastructure sector, along with numerous leading figures from the government of Montenegro, the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
“Political and economic development are essential in fostering stability not only in Montenegro, but in the whole region. In parallel with the accession talks, we need to boost economic diplomacy, particularly for SMEs, entrepreneurship and tourism,” highlighted President Tajani.
The visit will conclude with a cultural and tourism event in Perast to discuss with tourism school students the importance of this sector for Montenegro.
