Within the project Reform of disability determination system, funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP, NGOs will implement five diverse projects in upcoming months, aiming to promote the system reform and rights and abilities of persons with disabilities.
Through numerous project activities, the public will learn more about difficulties people with disabilities and their families face on a daily basis, as well as about the reform of this system that promotes inclusion and creates just system.
In the first call for grants, worth 50,000 euros, funds for the implementation of five projects were granted to Initiative of Youth with Disabilities of Boka, Center for Civic Education and the Association of Parents of Children with Disabilities from Podgorica, the Association of the Blind of Montenegro, NGO Equivalent, and the Association for the Assistance to Persons with Disabilities in Psychophysical Development Niksic.
These NGOs will use various communication techniques and tools to raise awareness and educate the public, but also specific target groups – persons with disabilities and their families, NGOs representing them, representatives of relevant state and local institutions, as well as media representatives.
The project envisages establishment of a single body, as well as a single methodology for determining disability that will replace the existing and outdated predominantly medical model. In this way, persons with disabilities will exercise their rights in a more equitable and simpler way.
