Montenegro celebrates Europe Day
The central event marking Europe Day this year will be held in Podgorica. The Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, in partnership with the Capital City, is organising a number of events, including the traditional EU Fair and Flower Carpet, as well as the spectacular Festival of Lights. Europe Day will also be celebrated in seven cities across Montenegro, which will be organised by the EU and the Ministry of European Affairs.
Celebrating Europe Day in Podgorica
Let’s start from the beginning. Leading up to Europe Day, on 8 May at 7 p.m. the Delegation of European Union to Montenegro will be gifting the citizens of Podgorica a concert by Marija Božović with her band at the Independence Square. This concert by the popular Montenegrin singer is also an introduction to the series of events through which Podgorica will celebrate Europe Day.
To mark the jubilee, the University of Montenegro the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro wanted to pay tribute to the youth, knowledge, and science. As a result, all the main events this year will be held at the University Square, near the Saint Peter of Cetinje monument in Podgorica, located on the campus of the University of Montenegro.
In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the student radio station Krš and the Student Parliament, the EU Delegation will be supporting the organisation of a big party at the plateau of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, which is to be held on Friday, 10 May, at 7 p.m. Expect to see DJ Rolando (Detroit), Kid Kimi (Belgrade), and DJ Stefan Bulatović Buli (Podgorica) among the performers.
The next day, on Saturday, 11 May, starting at noon the central event of the Europe Day celebration will take place by the Saint Peter of Cetinje monument at the University Square. Alongside the traditional EU Fair of Embassies presenting their culture and history of EU countries, the presentation of EU programmes and projects in Montenegro and its partners, and the Flower Carpet will also be officially opened. This year’s Flower Carpet, covering an area of 274 square meters and featuring 18 thousand seedlings, is inspired by the tradition of Montenegrin craftsmanship. A concert by the Zvjezdice choir, a sand performance inspired by our heroine Super Zvjezdana, and a fashion show with design pieces that incorporate recycled materials are among the many planned activities as well. In addition, the main event will include pet-friendly activities, outdoor chess, outdoor painting, virtual reality, and much more.
On Sunday, 12 May, starting at 9 p.m. in front of the building of the Rectorate of the University of Montenegro, a spectacular Festival of Lights awaits us. As a gift from the EU Delegation to the city of Podgorica and the University of Montenegro, expect to see a 3D animation light show and light installations that will dance to the rhythm of electronic music, featuring DJ Funkella accompanied by Stefan Pavićević (saxophone) and Tanja Bogdanović (electric violin).
European Tour across Montenegrin cities
The European Tour throughout Montenegro will be organised by the Ministry of European Affairs and the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro from 9-17 May. Various activities await us under the auspices of the EU4ME project in partnership with nine Montenegrin local governments, from Bar to Pljevlja. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in kids educational workshop and tree planting action in Vrsuta, Bar on 9 May, and in Nikšić on the same day participate in all-day activities at the main city square. You can join a cycling tour around Nikšić on 10 May. On the same day in Kolašin, there will be a carousel of events at the main square, as well as a grand evening concert by KUD Kolašin and Isak Šabanović, organised by the EU Corner from Bijelo Polje. In Mojkovac on 13 May, preschoolers will organise a carnival inspired by the European Union, while in Berane on the same day secondary school students debate about Montenegro in European Union. In Žabljak on 14 May elementary and high school students will sing Eurovision hits, wear costumes of historical personalities from European history, prepare traditional European dishes, and knitting workshop wit exhibition of traditional handicrafts will also be organized. The European Tour is also set to stop in Petnjica 16 May by celebration in Divan Garden, and stops on 17 May in Pljevlja at the main city square with performances by music school students, City choir and Tamburitza Orchestra, and Cultural Artistic Society “Volođa” and “Pljevlja”.
