3D Virtual Heritage

Cultural heritage is of paramount importance for preserving national identity, but also for the economic development of a country. It contributes substantially to employment and social cohesion. In this respect, it is vital to raise public awareness of the importance of cultural heritage and preserve it for future generations.

The European Union is committed to preserving and enhancing European heritage and allocates considerable funds to this end. This project seeks to support the preservation of Montenegrin culture heritage. More specifically, it is focused on introducing science and 3D technology in the processing, presentation and storage of data on certain cultural heritage monuments in Montenegro.

The project resulted in 3D models of 3 cultural heritage monuments in the country. The virtual presentations of 3D models of Njegoš Mausoleum, Kosmač Fortress and a relief map of Montenegro are now available online at any time and from anywhere in the world. This presents a contribution to the promotion of Montenegro and sustainable development of its cultural tourism. Also, digital 3D documentation is timeless and may be used to facilitate future restoration of these monuments if needed. In other words, this project provides a good platform for future restoration, research and promotion of the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
