Creating employment in agriculture

Both Kosovo* and Montenegro are experiencing the problem of young people leaving rural communities in search of job opportunities in cities. Yet, both economies are confronted with growing youth unemployment rates, while their farmers are getting older.

This project aims to improve access to the labour market and boost youth employment in the agricultural sector. In particular, it seeks to strengthen the capacities of unemployed young people in rural areas of Peja, Istog, Podgorica and Tuzi, encouraging them to get involved in agriculture and helping them to create sustainable connections for continued employment.

During its implementation period, the project will help provide production equipment and organise different capacity-building activities, such as workshops and training programmes for the production of aromatic herbs, olive oil and dairy products. Also, all beneficiaries who have started their production will have an opportunity to present their products at a a specially organised fair. This will facilitate connections with buyers of agricultural products and promote local production.

*This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSCR 1244/99 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.
