Life on BiH/MNE border – Ancient traces of ageless heritage and tradition

Cultural heritage is perceived as a common good of paramount importance and that is why its preservation is vital. This project looked to create and promote joint cross-border tourism products by encouraging partnerships in culture and tourism and restoring neglected cultural and historical heritage in the municipalities of Nikšić and Plužine in Montenegro and the municipalities of Trebinje and Bileća in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project helped map 40 valuable cultural and historical heritage locations and facilities that have been inadequately managed and/or neglected, while also promoting them as a joint tradition and part of the shared offer. Also, the project increased the level of sustainable heritage management through the creation of a joint plan for its protection and establishment of a functional management structure.

The project help reconstruct/restore the traditional 19th century boats and the wharves on the culturally significant rivers of Trebišnjica and Zeta. Theyare now offered as new tourism products to visitors, as they represent part of cultural heritage. Additionally, new joint tours have been created, which helped expand the tourism offer in the targeted municipalities and increase the number of visitors in the cross-border area.
