Strengthening COVID-19 surveillance capacities in Montenegro

The COVID-19 pandemic has exerted a great stress on the health systems worldwide. The best results in the fight against coronavirus have been achieved by those systems that scaled up surveillance, testing and contact tracing.

This project aims to increase the capacities of Montenegrin health system to prevent, detect and trace COVID-19 cases. This nine-month long project is worth €300,000 and is implemented by the World Health Organisation Office (WHO) in Montenegro.

WHO experts will help to strengthen national surveillance capacities for COVID-19 case investigations, contact-tracing and contact-monitoring. This is expected to improve data collection and analysis, as well as enable the Ministry of Health to take timely decisions on effective public health measures, reduce transmission rates, infections and hospitalisations. Additionally, this project will contribute to the goal of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans to support the countries of the region in strengthening the resilience of their health systems.
