Pollution represents one of the biggest threats of today, both for the environment and human health. It affects everyone and it is therefore important to take action to reduce it.
This project was designed to support and empower communities and municipalities to become more engaged in environmental protection, climate change adaptation and mitigation, risk prevention and waste management. It targeted the municipalities of Petnjica in Montenegro and Đakovica/Gjakova in Kosovo*.
The UAP project helped raise public awareness and foster exchange of good practices and know-how among communities and local authorities in these municipalities to combat illegal landfills by introducing environmentally-friendly concepts and expanding green space. Residents were provided with an increased understanding of the risk of illegal waste, as well as about how to participate in the local waste collection system and how to report violators. Also, the project supported infrastructure improvements at waste transfer stations and improved training and safety precautions for employees, including the sharing of best practices.
In short, the UAP project contributed to establishing a healthier environment and facilitating sustainable development in the municipalities of Petnjica and Đakovica/Gjakova.
