CARES – Cross-border Actions in the REproductive Health Sector

Reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being in all aspects relating to the reproductive system. To maintain reproductive health, people need access to accurate information and quality health services. Unfortunately, breast and cervical cancers are among the major causes of suffering and death of women around the world, including in Montenegro and Kosovo*.

This project therefore aimed to raise awareness of the importance of protecting reproductive health and improve access to and quality of reproductive health services in the targeted area, especially for socially vulnerable groups.

The project featured an awareness raising campaign on the importance of prevention in protecting reproductive health, with emphasis on the prevention of breast and cervical cancers. Other activities included preventive gynecological and breast examinations for women from the targeted area and delivery of new medical equipment (ultrasound machines, endoscopes, medical instruments, other equipment and supplies) to health centers in the targeted municipalities. In this way, the project helped strengthen the capacity of health centers, enhance the quality of reproductive health services and foster cross-border cooperation in the area of reproductive health.

In order to raise awareness of peer violence against members of the Roma community, this sub-grant included production of several research articles. In the research process were also involved journalists from the Roma portal “Romalitika”.
