Development of a road network database in Montenegro

A road database is an extremely important tool for the management, planning and development of the road network, as well as for the improvement of road safety.

This project established an operational database of the main and regional road network in Montenegro. Specifically, the project resulted in a computerized management system of the country’s road network, in accordance with the best international standards. Furthermore, data on 1,783 kilometres of Montenegrin highways and regional roads were collected and processed throughout the project. This provides a solid foundation for further transport planning and development in the country. Also, this helped create the conditions for improving road safety, which ultimately leads to a reduction in the number of traffic accidents.

The project also strengthened the capacities of the Transport Directorate in respect of planning and managing the road network. In short, this project made an important contribution towards successful road management and long-term road planning and development in Montenegro.
