Waste Water Treatment Plant in Podgorica

Wastewater treatment represents an important element in water pollution control. It helps produce clean reusable water and reduce the amount of waste that is usually released into the environment. It also has the potential to produce energy through methane harvesting, as well as the potential to produce natural fertiliser from waste collected through the process. In short, wastewater treatment is essential for protecting human health and the environment.

The present wastewater treatment plant in Podgorica is obsolete and well below the capacity and level of treatment required by the current demand. This project focuses on the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant for Podgorica, ancillary sewage collectors and primary and secondary network, as well as a sludge incineration plant.

These investments will ensure adequate collection and treatment of wastewater generated by the city, thus mitigating the negative impact of untreated wastewater on biodiversity and reducing health hazards for local citizens.

The project will be implemented in three stages. The first stage will involve the construction of a 187,600 PE wastewater treatment plant, main transfer collector from the existing plant and the sludge incineration plant. The second stage will be the construction of the primary collector and secondary sewerage network and house connections (approx. 85 km). Finally, the third stage will involve the construction of the primary collector and secondary sewerage network and house connections (approx. 72 km), as well as an increase in treatment capacity of the wastewater treatment plant to 235,000 PE.

As part of this project, a new pedestrian pipeline bridge over the Morača river has already been opened. Also, an OVPG mobile application with news and information on the progress of works within the project is available to Android and iOS users. The app can be downloaded through the links below:
