The first batch of 24,000 doses of COVAX vaccines arrived in Montenegro on Sunday, 28 March 2021, which will help mass vaccination in the country to start as soon as possible.

“The EU is one of the biggest contributors to this global initiative and we are happy to see it is working and delivering effective and safe vaccines. Immunisation against the virus is the best way to stop this pandemic and to protect Montenegrin citizens, especially the vulnerable ones. We are all in this unprecedented health crisis together and no one is safe until everyone is safe,” EU Ambassador to Montenegro Oana Cristina Popa stated as the first COVAX vaccines arrived on the Podgorica Airport.

This is why, Team Europe, including the EU, its Member States and the European Investment Bank, has contributed over 2.2 billion euros for COVAX, including 1 billion euros from the EU budget.

Team Europe’s financing has provided COVAX with immediate financial backing and leverage to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies.

This immediate availability of funding is vital in ensuring that vaccines can be delivered to the COVAX member countries, including Montenegro, as soon as possible.
