Regional programme: Ending violence against women in the Western Balkans and Turkey (implementing norms, changing minds)

Violence against women and girls is among the most prevalent forms of human rights violation worldwide. In this respect, one of the EU’s top priorities is to stop violence against women and girls and promote gender equality within and outside its borders.

This programme aims to end gender-based discrimination and violence against women and girls in the Western Balkans and Turkey, with a particular focus on the most disadvantaged groups of women. During the implementation period, the programme will help create an enabling legislative and policy environment, in line with international standards on eliminating violence against women and all forms of discrimination. It will also support women’s NGOs to advocate for the development and implementation of laws and policies that will be aligned with international human rights standards.

Furthermore, the programme will raise awareness about the importance of transforming gender stereotypes. It will contribute to the promotion of favourable social norms and attitudes. It will also empower women and girls who have experienced discrimination or violence, including those from disadvantaged groups to advocate for and use available, accessible and quality services.

The programme will provide financial support for different technical assistance contracts and grant schemes for women’s NGOs.
