The first contingent of 2,340 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines has been delivered to Montenegro, as part of a total of 42,000 doses that the European Union will donate to Montenegro by the end of August.
“We care about Montenegro and the Western Balkans,” European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi said during his visit to Podgorica on May 4th.
The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Zdravko Krivokapić, thanked Várhelyi and all EU citizens who helped the Western Balkans.
Speaking to reporters, Várhelyi said that the European Commission had recommended that EU Member States accept vaccination certificates for all vaccines registered by the European Medicines Agency. He added that they are open to the idea of accepting all vaccines registered with the World Health Organization.
So far, a total of 40,843 Montenegrin citizens or 6.81 percent of the population have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 24,674, or 4.11 percent, were revaccinated.
